(Four Catches for Men's Voices) A "catch" is a round or canon for three or more voices, each entering on the same pitch. They were usually written for male voices and were popular in England in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, particularly as entertainment in working-class drinking houses. The words were irreverent - sometimes even indecent.
